Juniper Rose is the creative force behind the increasing popular jewelry line Falconiere. The former clothing designer’s opulent handcrafted creations resulted in a capsule accessories group for Donna Karan and her distinct medieval inspired pieces continue to appear on the pages of various editorials including W Magazine and Interview Magazine.

What does Falconiere mean? Why did you choose this particular name?

Falconiere s a play on falconer, which is someone who hunts with a trained falcon, or other bird of prey. Falconry was popular among the nobles during the medieval period, and that particular time period serves as the ongoing reference for my line

You did a capsule collection for Donna Karan before launching Falconiere — what was the creative process alongside Donna Karan like?

I collaborated with Michelle Saunders, who was the VP of Accessories, and Michelle Frantz, who was the Design Director of Accessories, on a capsule group for Donna Karan Collection. I loved the process of working with them and their team. We used my first collection for Falconiere as the starting point to create a collection of jewelry and accessories that was very over-the-top in terms of silhouette and couture-like workmanship.

Do you have a signature style or a recurring piece that coincides with new inspirations each season?

Coming from a clothing background, I’m always drawn to interpreting traditional clothing-type silhouettes into jewelry body pieces.  I launched my line with draped chain epaulettes and chest-pieces, which coincided with what was happening at Balmain and Givenchy at the time, and now my body pieces have become quite tailored and chic, which I think will tie in well with what’s coming for fall.

What designers do your customers pair your jewelry with?

I think the people who wear Falconiere tend to be the fashion confident, and as such, mix my pieces with anything from Ann Demeulemeester to Rag & Bone to vintage.

Which retailers would you like to work with most?

The stores that currently carry Falconiere are my dream stores…on Pedder and Lane Crawford, Luisa Via Roma.  I would love to expand the availability of my line into other luxury retailers and concept stores here in New York, and around the world.

Can you tell us a bit about the Spring/Summer collection arriving at stores now?

My SS13 collection is all about long necks and arms, so I created high neckpieces, wide cuffs, long gloves and hand-pieces.

Do you have ready-to-wear aspirations, or will you remain exclusively an accessories designer?

My focus is to continue creating jewelry and accessories, including leather goods season after season, so for now that is keeping me quite busy! However, I would love to incorporate some ready-to-wear one day.

You’ve been featured in numerous editorials (W Magazine, CR Fashion Book, Interview), how does it feel when your see someone like Linda Evangelista photographed in one of your pieces?

Well, it never gets old!  Every time is just as exciting as the first time…CARINE ROITFELD’s CR Fashion Book, are you kidding me!?!  W MAGAZINE and LINDA EVANGELISTA styled by EDWARD ENNINFUL, are you kidding me!?!  ITALIAN VOGUE styled by LORI GOLDSTEIN shot by STEVEN MEISEL, are you kidding me!?!

Seriously, when I was a kid in an adolescence where all the other kids seemed to dress the same, my special alternate universe was the world offered in Vogue, Elle, Bazaar, etc., so to have my work appear in those publications today really takes my breath away.
