Spring is coming, and that sounds like another great excuse for a wardrobe refresher. I’m on a personal mission to make bolder style choices this season. So now that Beetlejuice inspired stripes were making a comeback, I foresee a brand new obsession in the making.
For Spring 2017 Lanvin delivered a Parisian collection that brought menswear inspired separates and classic draping to the forefront. Black, white and blue dominated the palette, with belts and glittering embellishments throughout. Bouchra Jarrar’s first collection channeled all of the grace and simplicity of modern woman while celebrating the elegance of the house’s rich past. Meanwhile in lieu of the apparent sex appeal we’ve come to expect from Nina Ricci, Guillaume Henry took a more subdued approach to Spring looks. Silky layered stripes and sporty velvets paraded down the runway to represent the new “cool girl” approach to feminine style. These looks make transitioning from day to night super easy.
Thick vertical stripes can be a bit intimidating, but by keeping it tonal you can’t really go wrong. You can take on the trend from head to toe with the belted silk-satin set from By Malene Birger. Or, try work friendly separates from Joseph or Courrèges paired with a solid top. I also like less conventional ways to incorporate the trend, specifically the striped bomber and satin-twill mini skirt from Ann Demeulemeester. And with garden party season approaching, I’m sure to be seeing dresses from Marc Jacobs and Etro snapped for Instagram worthy moments.
The snow is melting, and hopefully the big freeze is finally behind us. This translates to fewer heavy layers, and more time to concentrate on fun over functionality. So let’s break out of our sleepy winter comas and break out the stripes!
